CEDAR PARK, Texas - Jordan Owens snagged an overtime goal, giving the Griffins a 4-3 win against the Texas Stars Tuesday night at the Cedar Park Center, wrapping up a season-high six-game road trip for Grand Rapids.
The Griffins (20-19-1-4) completed a four-game Texas swing with the Stars (23-14-3-2), before returning to Van Andel on Friday to take on the Wolves at 7 p.m. in the first of two back-to-back games against Chicago.
Jamie Tardif put the Griffins on the board early in the first frame, tallying a goal at 4:25. The Stars were quick to respond, claiming a power play goal off the stick of Brandon Segal at 6:04 to tie the game 1-1 heading into the second period.
Grand Rapids gained a late 2-1 advantage, with the only goal of the frame fired past Richard Bachman by Chris Minard at 15:29. After a slow-moving second period the Stars rally in the third, tallying two consecutive goals to gain a 3-2 lead. Jordie Benn claimed the first goal, slipping one behind Jordan Pearce at 2:04 of the period, followed closely by Mathieu Tousignant with a power play goal at 7:11.
The Stars advantage came to an end at 15:48, with a power play goal backhanded in by Jordan Owens sending the game into overtime. Pearce made several back-to-back saves, giving Owens the opportunity to snag his second goal of the night, and the win over Texas with a little less than two minutes remaining.
Contributing to the effort, Pearce tallied 39 saves while Bachman posted 14 stops as the Griffins out shot the Stars 42-18.
Three Stars: 1. GR Owens (GWG, 2 goals); 2. TEX Tousignant (1 goal, 1 assist); 3. GR Minard (1 goal, 1 assist)
