Rochester Americans News Release
(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Americans and Syracuse Crunch will extend their heated rivalry off the ice for the next month as the intrastate foes today announced the details of the Facebook Face-Off competition, designed to operate exclusively through each respective club's social media platforms.
"If they beat us in this, it would be the first time they beat us in anything," said Amerks Vice President of Hockey Operations Ted Nolan. "I wish them well."
"The Facebook Face-Off challenge takes the excitement of our storied rivalry with Rochester off the ice and allows the Central New York community an opportunity to prove to Rochester what our organization already knows - that Crunch fans are the best in the American Hockey League," responded Crunch Senior Vice President Jim Sarosy.
The month-long campaign, designed to attract and engage members of each team's respective community, is scheduled to start on Wednesday, January 19th and run through Saturday, February 19th, with the team who gains the most Facebook Fans or new 'Likes' on their official Facebook Fan page at the end of the 30 days declared the winner. The same contest rules will be applied to both teams, however the Amerks and Crunch are permitted to promote the competition through various other outlets at the discretion of each organization.
At the conclusion of the competition, a representative from each team will report the number of Facebook Fans or new 'Likes' gained no later than noon on Saturday, February 19th. The winner will be officially announced later that evening as Rochester takes on Syracuse in an American Hockey League matchup at the War Memorial at Oncenter at 7:30 p.m. As agreed upon by both teams, the losing club will make a charitable contribution to the winner's foundation.
With a win in the Facebook Face-Off competition, the Amerks will reward their newly populated Facebook Fans with the opportunity to win prizes of their own. Facebook users who are listed as fans of the official Rochester Americans Facebook Fan Page by the completion of the contest will have the chance to win the following prizes: an autographed game-worn jersey, a chance to enjoy an Amerks game in a luxury suite (up to 12 people), 20 complimentary tickets to the Party Deck, a four-pack of tickets, Amerks team prize packs, lunch with your favorite Amerks player and more! The prizes will only be given out to Amerks Facebook Fans if the Amerks win the overall competition.
"The Facebook Face-Off is a way for our two teams to let our fans have some fun with our rivalry with Syracuse," said Amerks President Lewis Staats. "And we are sure when the numbers are 'crunched', the red, white and blue of Rochester will come out on top once again."
