Canaries sweep El Paso with 7-6 win

Sioux Falls, SD - The Sioux Falls Canaries (14-27) completed a three-game sweep of the El Paso Diablos (14-28) with a 7-6 win on Sunday afternoon.

Chad Hermansen, Abner Arroyo, and Dennis Anderson drew three consecutive walks, to set the table for John Schmitz. Schmitz singled to score Chad Hermansen, to give the Canaries a 1-0 lead.

Dustin Smith tied the game, 1-1 in the Diablos in the third, scoring on a wild pitch by Aaron Garrison.

Chad Hermansen tripled in the bottom of the thrid and scored on a groundout by Abner Arroyo, to give the Canaries a 2-1 lead.

In the fourth, Chris Weber and Jason Sugden got back-to-back triples. Weber scored off Sugden's three-bagger and Sugden scored off a single by Dustin Delucchi, to make it 4-1.

The Canaries added to the lead in the sixth inning. With two on, Dustin Delucchi hit a fly ball to left field that was misplayed by Logan Wood. Wood's error allowed two runs to score and give the Canaries a 6-1 lead.

The Diablos roared back in the seventh. After an RBI single by Dustin Smith, Logan Wood hit a three-run homer to make it 6-5.

Hermansen answered for the Canaries with a solo shot, his seventh of the year, to give the Canaries a 7-5 lead.

A sacrifice fly by Matt Eichel scored Jorge Alvarez, but the Diablos could not tie the game as the Canaries held on for a 7-6 win.

Aaron Garrison (3-3) pitched 6.1 innings for the win. David McWatters (1-5) suffered the loss. Matt Petrusek picked up his first save of the season. The Canaries will be on the road Jun 26-29, returning on June 30 for a three-game homestand against the Sioux City Explorers.
