SAINT PAUL, MN - The Sioux City Explorers defeated the Saint Paul Saints, 10-4 in 11 innings Saturday night at Midway Stadium in Saint Paul. The win improves the X's record to 20-20 and the loss drops the Saints to 23-17.
Mike Nunes was the winning pitcher for the X's, improving his season record to 1-3. Nunes threw three and a third innings, allowing only three hits, one run and striking out two. Kevin Rival took the loss for the Saints, dropping him to 2-2 on the season. Rival threw two innings, giving up six hits and six runs, walking three and striking out four.
The X's offense was led by Ryan Gripp, who was 3-6 at the plate, with his fifth home run of the season and scoring three runs. Keven Henry was 1-5, with his tenth home run of the season. Alex Llanos was 3-4, scoring once and driving in two.
Sioux City and Saint Paul will play game three of their four game series Sunday, with first pitch scheduled for 12:05. Karsten Gaarder (0-2) will take the mound for the X's and Mike Meyer (4-3) will start for the Saints.
