St. Joseph Blacksnakes News Release
Lincoln, NE-The Blacksnakes (20-20) stayed alive in the first half with a 6-4 win in 10 innings over Lincoln (28-13). The game appeared over in the ninth before the umpires overruled a St. Joe double play that allowed Lincoln to tie the game before the âSnakes plated two in the 10th.
St. Joe will be eliminated from the first half with another loss or a Lincoln win with eight games remaining in the first half.
The âSnakes never trailed, leading 1-0, 2-1 before breaking a 2-all tie in the sixth on run-scoring hits by Mark Burke and Misha Dworken to take a 4-2 lead.
After Lincoln's Jay Yaconetti hit a solo home run in the eighth, St. Joe took a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the ninth before chaos ensued.
With one out and a runner at second, Lincoln's Cory Harris lined a ball to 1B Mark Burke. Burke appeared to catch the ball at his feet, and-with the second base umpire ruling out-jogged to second to double up the runner and end the ballgame.
But as St. Joe celebrated the umpires gathered and ruled the ball hit the dirt and placed runners on the corners with just one out for Lincoln. St. Joe resumed play under protest, and after pitching coach Mark Nussbeck and two players were ejected.
Bryan Warner then delivered a sacrifice fly to tie the game before the âSnakes would get out of the inning with the bases loaded.
In the 10th, Wil Quintana doubled to start the inning and later scored on a Cody Nowlin single. Jefferson Infante followed with another run-scoring hit to give the âSnakes a 6-4 lead that Vinnie DeChristofaro would make stand with a scoreless 10th.
The series concludes Sunday at 5:05pm from Haymarket Park with Jesen Merle (1-1) starting for St. Joe against Lincoln's Roger Lincoln (3-3). St. Joe then returns home to begin a 10-game homestand on Monday with Sioux Falls. The first seven games of the homestand will conclude the first half.
