SIOUX FALLS, SD -- Travis Kane pitched 7 shutout innings as Sioux Falls blanked the Explorers 3-0 on a cold, windy night in South Dakota Friday night.

The Canaries scored 2 runs in the 3rd off of X's starter Dusty Bergman. Grant Richardson got a leadoff walk and then Tim Hutting doubled off the short porch in left. After Kenard Bibbs bounced out, Beau Torbert got the first run home on a grounder to third. Will Smith followed with a single making it 2-0. The Canaries tacked on an unearned run in the 4th when Josh Patton reached on a Juan Camacho error and came home on a Ben Van Iderstine single.

Bergman pitched well in a losing effort for the Explorers, going 6 1/3 innings, allowing 3 runs, 2 earned on 7 hits, walking 2 and striking out 4. Bergman, Manager Les Lancaster and Tim Layden will all ejected arguing a call in the 7th.

At the plate, Sioux City had leadoff men on base in the first, 4th, 5th and 7th innings but could not capitalize with the Birds turning 2 double plays on the night.

The X's will try to rebound on Saturday night with Nick Singleton on the mound while the Canaries will counter with their ace Pat Mahomes. Game time is 7:05 and can be heard on 1360 KSCJ and xsbaseball.com.
