Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs saw their seven-game winning streak come to an end Friday night, losing 6-3 to Wichita at Haymarket Park. Lincoln actually outhit the Wingnuts 8-5, but the Saltdogs committed a season-high five errors in the loss.
The game turned in the sixth inning, after Wichita led off the top half of the inning with back-to-back singles off of Dogs starter Ryan Trytten (1-1). Lincoln committed three errors in the frame, allowing two runs to score and giving the Wingnuts a 4-3 lead. Wichita didn't get another hit the rest of the night, but scored insurance runs in the seventh and ninth innings without the benefit of a hit to reach the final margin.
Both teams scored unearned runs in the first inning, thanks to errors by each team's second baseman. Lincoln took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third on Mario Delgado's second RBI single of the night, but Wichita tied it in the top of the fourth on a mammoth home run by Blake Gailen. The Saltdogs re-took the lead in the fifth on an Eduardo Rios RBI double, only to see Wichita launch its two-run rally in the sixth.
Delgado ended the game 2-for-3 with two RBI, and Anthony Contreras finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Johnny Kaplan led off the bottom of the first with a double for Lincoln, but was injured later in the inning trying to score and left the game. Dustin Yount missed his second straight game after being injured in batting practice on Thursday.
For Wichita, Brad Davis (2-2) earned the win, pitching six innings and allowing two earned runs. Former Saltdog Byron Embry picked up his fifth save, pitching a scoreless ninth for the Wingnuts.
The Saltdogs and Wingnuts play game two of their three-game series Saturday night at 7:05. R.D. Spiehs is scheduled to make the start for Lincoln, while Justin Young is expected to make the start for Wichita.
