Saints Draw Four Millionth Fan in 2-1 Loss to Cats

ST. PAUL, MN (May 23, 2008) - The St. Paul Saints drew their four millionth fan on Friday night at Midway Stadium, but lost to the Fort Worth Cats 2-1 in front of 5,417.

In a battle of two good lefties the Saints Luis Villarreal was out-dueled by Cats LHP Pedro Flores. Each starter worked a solid 7.0 innings, but the Saints fell just short.

In the first inning the Saints jumped on Flores when Scooter Jordan led off with a single to left. He stole second and after a walk to Andrew Bennett Tim Brown doubled down the right field line to make it 1-0. The Saints, however, couldn't score another run in the inning as Marcel Longmire popped out to second and Kevin Sullivan walked to load the bases. Flores got Jason Colson to strike out and Brent Krause to pop out to second.

The Cats took the lead in the fourth when Jake Gautreau led off with a double to right. Nelson Teilon hit a bloop double down the right field line putting runners at second and third. After a strike out of Aaron Sisk by Villarreal, Ed Montague hit an RBI groundout. With two outs John Allen singled home Teilon for the deciding run.

Villarreal went 7.0 innings allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out four, but fell to 1-1. Flores hurled 7.0 innings allowing one run on five hits while walking five and striking out eight to up his record to 3-0.

The same two teams meet Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. The Saints RHP Justin Lord (2-0, 1.86) the mound against Cats RHP Dan Grybash (0-2, 3.29). It is A Moment of Noise - A Tribute to Marcel Marceau. The game can be seen on KSTC-TV, Channel 45 and heard on Relevant Radio 1330.
