Sioux City, IA - The Sioux Falls Canaries scored five runs across the final two innings Thursday, topping Sioux City 6-5 in the rubber match of a three-game series.

After three scoreless innings, Sioux City struck for three runs in the bottom of the fourth to jump in front.

Trevor Achenbach drew a bases loaded walk in the top of the sixth to get the Birds on the board but Sioux Falls left the bases loaded.

The 3-1 Explorer lead held until the top of the eighth inning. Scott Combs drove in a run with a two-out single before Joe Vos doubled to tie the game. Sioux City took the lead right back with a sacrifice fly in the bottom half.

Trailing 4-3 entering the top of the ninth, the Canaries opened the inning by drawing three walks before Achenbach was hit by a pitch to tie the game. Combs then ripped a two-run double off the left field wall to put Sioux Falls in front for good.

The Explorers got a run back in the bottom portion with a two-out solo homerun but Charlie Hasty hung on to record his fifth save and secure the series victory.

Garrett Martin allowed a run over six strong innings while Will Levine earned the win in relief. Vos, Combs and Chris Kwitzer each tallied two hits to lead the offense. The Canaries (14-12) now open a six-game homestand Friday night at 7:05pm against Kansas City.
