Sioux Falls Canaries News Release
ST. PAUL, MINN- The Sioux Falls Canaries (8-9) put together one of their best offensive days of the season, riding a strong pitching performance from RHP Jeremy Strawn (2-1, 3.09 ERA) to a 6-2 win over the St. Paul Saints (14-2) on Sunday night at CHS Field in downtown St. Paul.
The Birds watched an early 1-0 lead slip away after Saints' designated hitter, Ian Gac smashed a two-out double into the right field gap, and later scored on a Mike Kvasnicka RBI single off the right field wall.
The game would stay tied at 1-1 until the top of the sixth inning, when Canaries second baseman, Michael Wing crushed a leadoff homerun (2) over the left field wall. The Birds' added a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning, and two more in the eighth to cap off their big offensive day.
Wing finished the day 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and a homerun to go along with his two RBI and two runs scored.
The Birds' totaled six runs on 14 hits, including a 3-for-3 day at the plate from both RJ Perucki and David Bergin. Bergin continues to pace the Canaries offense in 2015, posting a .321 batting average to go along with a team best 11 RBI and 12 runs scored.
Strawn earned his second win of the season after allowing two runs on six hits over six innings.
St. Paul's starting pitcher, Kramer Sneed (2-1, 2.25 ERA) suffered his first loss of the season after allowing two runs on five hits.
