Wichita Wingnuts News Release

WICHITA, KS (June 8, 2015) - The Wichita Wingnuts were already represented in Major League Baseball's National League with Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder David Peralta playing a large role out west. Now the club can claim a connection to the American League as RHP Junior Guerra was called up from Triple-A Charlotte to the Chicago White Sox on Sunday.

Guerra, who pitched for the Wingnuts in 2011 and 2013, began this summer in Double-A Birmingham. While suiting up for the Barons he went 2-3 with an impressive 2.29 ERA in five games, three of them starts. He struck out 26 batters in 19.2 innings.

That performance earned him a promotion to Triple-A during the first week of May. Despite going 0-3 he struck out 40 in only 30.0 innings and allowed just ten runs. The 30-year old is expected to join the White Sox bullpen and serve in a long relief role.

While in Wichita, Guerra went 18-7 with a 3.44 ERA over two seasons. He whiffed 229 batters and issued 130 walks. The native of San Felix, Venezuela is well represented in the Wingnuts annals. He is among the top five in franchise history in career wins, winning percentage, innings pitched, and strikeouts.

Wichita has watched 29 players have their contract purchased by MLB organizations, but Guerra and Peralta are the only pair to suit up for the Wingnuts before making their MLB debut.
