July 9, 2004 - Northern League (NL)
Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release
The Winnipeg Goldeyes saw their first-half record fall to 24-21 Friday night with a 2-1 loss to the Sioux Falls Canaries before a crowd of 6,928 at CanWest Global Park.
Winnipeg opened the scoring in the bottom of the sixth. With two out and two on, Pat Scalabrini ripped a Mike Lyons (7 IP, 1 R, 6 H, 4 SO, 0 BB) offering to left to score Darryl Brinkley from second. Things stayed that way until the eighth when the Canaries finally got to Goldeyes starter Roger Luque (7.1 IP, 2 R, 6 H, 6 SO, 2 BB). Scott Beshears singled with one out and scored seconds later on a Felix Pagan double to tie it at one. Marc Mirizzi then singled to score Pagan, ending Luque's night. Dusty Keppen retired the two batters he faced to keep it 2-1 Sioux Falls.
David Lopez blanked the hosts in the eighth, as Oscar Montero did to the visitors in the ninth. Brandon Parker entered in the ninth looking for his first save and got it. Lyons picked up the win to improve to 4-0 while Luque took the hard-luck loss to fall to 5-2.
These same two teams meet again on Saturday at 7 p.m. Lefty Steve Murray (2-4) goes for us while Wesley Faust (4-1) replies for them. Great seats are available at all Ticketmaster locations, including the ballpark box office.
