RailCats Add Juan Camacho

GARY – The Gary SouthShore RailCats (Northern League) have signed infielder Juan Camacho and have placed infielder Dustin Knight on irrevocable waivers for the purpose of giving him his unconditional release, the club announced today

Camacho, 23, batted .189 in 14 games with the Pennsylvania Road Warriors of the Atlantic League this season before being released. Camacho, a native of San Carlos, Venezuela, was signed by the New York Yankees as a non-drafted free agent in 1997 and was in the Yankee system from 1998-2003. Camacho's most productive season was 2002, when he batted .241 with 16 doubles, 17 home runs and 59 RBIs for the Single-A Greensboro Bats.

Knight, 23, batted 1-for-17 in seven games after being signed by the RailCats on June 15. The native of Puyalup, Washington began the 2004 season playing at North Carolina State University.

The RailCats return to U. S. Steel Yard, site of the 2005 Northern League All-Star Game, tonight when they host the Sioux City Explorers at 7 p.m. Tonight is RailCats Check Book Cover Giveaway Night. The first 1,000 adults (18 and older) will receive a free RailCats Check Book, compliments of Mercantile Bank. After the game, fans can enjoy a Fireworks Spectacular, presented by Krazy Kaplan's and the Post-Tribune. The Fireworks show is produced by Bada Boom Pyrotechnics.
