JackHammers have six plus coaching staff on All-Star track

JOLIET, IL – The Joliet JackHammers will have six players and their coaching staff on South Division roster for the 2004 Northern League All-Star Skills Competition and All-Star Game presented by Budweiser. The two-day event is on July 19 and 20 at Silver Cross Field in Joliet's City Center. Tickets are available for both events.

The JackHammers All-Star position players include outfielder Josh Loggins (starter), catcher Jeff Goldbach and outfielder Jermaine Allensworth. Loggins is batting .298 with 12 home runs and 42 RBI. In the Northern League, he ranks 2nd in home runs and 4th in RBI. Goldbach is one of the top defensive catchers in the Northern League and is batting .254 with 7 home runs, 10 doubles and 25 RBI. Allensworth, a former Major League Baseball player, was named to the squad with a .363 batting average. In the Northern League, he ranks 4th among active players in batting and is 2nd with a .455 on-base percentage. He's also flawless defensively.

The JackHammers All-Star pitchers include RHP Rich Hyde, LHP Brian Mazone and RHP Rob Garvin. Hyde is the Northern League's all-time leader with 80 wins and JackHammers all-time leader with 27 wins. This season, Hyde is 7-and-1 with a 2.61 ERA in 10 starts (one complete game shutout). In the Northern League this season, Hyde is tied for 1st in wins, 3rd with 69 innings pitched and 6th in ERA. Hyde is also the South Division's pitching coach. This is Hyde's second All-Star selection as a JackHammer.

Mazone is 5-and-2 with a 2.24 ERA and 64 strikeouts in 9 starts (2 complete game shutouts). In the Northern League, he is 1st in strikeouts, 1st in shutouts, 2nd in complete games, tied for 3rd in wins, 4th in ERA. This is Mazone's second All-Star selection as a JackHammer. Garvin is 0-and-1 with a 2.91 ERA and 9 saves in 22 relief appearances. In the Northern League, he ranks tied for 2nd in saves and 2nd in appearances. All statistics listed above are through Thursday's games.

The South Division All-Star starting lineup includes 1B Mario Delgado (Schaumburg), 2B Darren Doskocil (Lincoln), 3B Chris Weekly (Schaumburg), SS Geoff McCallum (Schaumburg), OF JuJu Foreman (Lincoln), OF Bryan Warner (Lincoln), Loggins, C Rich Rodrigues (Gary) and DH Eddie Pearson (Kansas City). The reserve position players include Goldbach, Allensworth and INF Josh Patton (Lincoln). The pitching staff includes Hyde, Mazone, Garvin, LHP Anthony Boughner (Schaumburg), RHP Hank Woodman (Schaumburg), RHP Brett Weber (Schaumburg), RHP Gabe DeHoyos (Schaumburg), RHP Adam Springston (Lincoln) and RHP Chris Weidert (Lincoln).

The South Division will be managed by Jeff Isom (Joliet). His staff includes coaches Mike Pinto (Joliet), Andy McCauley (Schaumburg), Bobby Bell (Joliet) and Hyde. The honorary captain for the South is former Chicago White Sox RHP Bobby Thigpen. The South Division All-Star breakdown features 7 from Schaumburg, 6 from Joliet, 6 from Lincoln, 1 from Gary and 1 from Kansas City.

The North Division All-Star starting lineup includes 1B Jason Fitzgerald (Fargo-Moorhead), 2B Justin Hall (St. Paul), 3B Pat Scalabrini (Winnipeg), SS Marc Mirizzi (Sioux Falls), OF Tonayne Brown (St. Paul), OF Joe Mathis (F-M), OF Adam Olow (St. Paul), C Kelly Gulledge (F-M) and DH Nick Gretz (St. Paul). The reserve position players include INF Bryon Jeffcoat (F-M), C Marcel Longmire (Sioux City) and OF Ryan Ruiz (Sioux City). The pitching staff includes RHP Ray Clark (F-M), RHP Todd George (F-M), RHP Nick Mattioni (F-M), LHP Nick Brannon (F-M), LHP Mike Peschel (F-M), RHP Oscar Montero (Winnipeg), LHP Roger Luque (Winnipeg), RHP Chris Chavez (St. Paul) and RHP Wes Faust (Sioux Falls). Brown will not be able to play and is replaced by OF Felix Pagan (Sioux Falls).

The North Division will be managed by Doug Simunic (F-M). His staff includes coaches Jeff Bittiger (F-M) and Bucky Burgau (F-M). The honorary captain for the North Division is former Chicago Cubs outfielder Andre Dawson. The North Division All-Star breakdown features 9 from Fargo-Moorhead, 5 from St. Paul, 3 from Winnipeg, 3 from Sioux Falls and 2 from Sioux City.

ATI Physical Therapy, the Official Athletic Trainer Provider of the JackHammers, will provide the athletic trainers for both teams.

The Jesse White Tumblers will perform during the Skills Competition, and The Blues Brothers will perform during the All-Star Game. Fireworks will follow both events.
