Hamren to the Padres & Alsup #2 Prospect

The Joliet JackHammers are proud to announce RHP Erik Hamren has signed with the San Diego Padres organization. Hamren was originally drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 37th round in the 2008 amateur draft.
The JackHammers acquired Hamren on August 22, 2010 in a trade with the Kansas City T-Bones for P Mike Rocco.
In seven games with the JackHammers this season, the 24 year old right hander posted a 0.84 ERA in 10.2 innings of work while striking out 16 batters and holding opponents to a .262 batting average.
Hamren joins Wes Alsup as the second player from the 2010 roster to be signed by an affiliated ball club.
"Erik is a great ballplayer and pitched well for us down the stretch. I wish him the best of luck and truly believe he'll enjoy great success with the Padres organization" said General Manager Jamie Toole.

Alsup Named Baseball America's #2 Independent League Prospect
Joliet -Wes Alsup has been named Baseball America's #2 Independent League Prospect. In 22 games with the JackHammers this season, Alsup pitched 26.1 innings while recording an impressive 2.05 ERA by allowing just 6 earned runs. Alsup held opposing hitters to a .161 batting average while striking out 21 batters. Alsup became a staple in the JackHammers bullpen during their post season run.
Alsup was signed by the Atlanta Braves organization back on September 30, 2010. Alsup was signed by the JackHammers on June 28, 2010 after finishing his college career at UT-Martin.
Aslup became the first player from the 2010 roster to sign with an affiliated club. He joins the ranks of Tim Byrdak, Brian Mazone, Derrick Ellison, and Taylor Wilding to be signed by an affiliated organization.
"I think he'll pitch in the big leagues someday," Joliet manager Chad Parker said.
