Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release

FARGO, N.D. – The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (31-15) lost the game but still won.

Despite falling to the Kansas City T-Bones (19-27) by a score of 9-4 on Friday night at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo, the RedHawks clinched the Northern League North Division 1st Half title thanks to the St. Paul Saints 11-2 loss to the Schaumburg Flyers. Winning the first half gives the RedHawks a berth in the post-season for the eighth time in their nine seasons and will give the club an opportunity to defend their last year's Northern League Championship.

Kansas City posted a run in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead on Cody Nowlin's RBI single. The T-Bones went up 2-0 in the third inning, as Nowlin drilled his third home run of the year. The RedHawks cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the third inning on Brad Mazer's RBI double that scored Brian Ward. Bryon Jeffcoat tied the game in the bottom of the fifth with a solo home run, his ninth of the season.

The T-Bones broke the game open in the top of the seventh inning, plating six runs to take an 8-2 lead. The onslaught began with four straight walks. The big blow came from Chad Hill's two-run double. Nowlin added an RBI single, while Jack Jones had a sacrifice fly. Eric Kofler drove in a pair of runs with an RBI single in the bottom of the 7th inning to cut the lead to 8-4.

Kansas City starter Jon McDonald (5-3) earned the victory for the T-Bones. He allowed four runs (two earned) on ten hits over 6.2 innings. He struck out two batters and walked three. Fargo-Moorhead starter J.J. Scheving (2-3) pitched well but took the loss. He pitched 6.1 innings, allowing three runs on five hits. Scheving struck out five batters and walked three.

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks and Kansas City T-Bones will play the third game of their four-game series on Saturday night at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo. Game time is 7:05 p.m. and good tickets are still available.
