
Rich Rodrigues Headed to All-Star Game

GARY â RailCats catcher Rich Rodrigues has been selected to start for the South Division squad in the 2004 Northern League All-Star Game.
This is the third time Rodrigues has been selected to play in the NL All-Star Game; he also started for the West Division (while playing for Sioux Falls) last season. Rodrigues is batting .295 with 2 home runs and 15 RBIs, and has thrown out 29% of runners attempting to steal against him.
Rodrigues, 28, has spent his entire seven-year career in the Northern League, playing for four different teams. The California native, who played one season at Long Beach State University, had his best professional season in 2001 when he batted .328 for the Sioux City Explorers, earning his first All-Star selection.
The Northern League All-Star festivities start Monday, July 19 with the Skills Competition, beginning at 7 p.m. at Silver Cross Field in Joliet. The All-Star Game will be played Tuesday, July 20 at 7:15 p.m.
The RailCats return to U. S. Steel Yard, site of the 2005 Northern League All-Star Game, tonight when they host the Sioux City Explorers at 7 p.m. Tonight is RailCats Check Book Cover Giveaway Night. The first 1,000 adults (18 and older) will receive a free RailCats Check Book, compliments of Mercantile Bank. After the game, fans can enjoy a Fireworks Spectacular, presented by Krazy Kaplan's and the Post-Tribune. The Fireworks show is produced by Bada Boom Pyrotechnics.
