TODAY'S GAME

The Calgary Hitmen open a home-and-home set with the Kootenay ICE this afternoon in a 4:00 p.m. start at the Scotiabank Saddledome. It's Sunday Funday. Activities include face painters, concourse activities, giveaways and a post-game family skate that is FREE with a game ticket. Sunday Funday features a specially priced $9.99 ticket for kids 12 and under and a $14.99 ticket for adults (plus applicable fees and taxes). The matinee will begin with a special Remembrance Day ceremony including a moment of silence to mark the sacrifice of the many men and women who have served and continue to serve our country.

NOTEWORTHY LAST GAME RECAP: Calgary is coming off Friday's 4-2 loss in Lethbridge. Hurricanes goaltender Reece Klassen made 34 saves in a first-star performance. The Hurricanes never trailed building leads of 1-0 and 3-1 and received goals from Jadon Joseph, Calen Addison, Alex Cotton and Zach Cox. Pittsburgh Penguins prospect Jordy Bellerive chipped in a pair of assists. The Calgary markers came from Luke Coleman and Josh Prokop in a game that saw the Hitmen outshoot the 'Canes 36-19. Both teams went 0-1 on the power play.

VS. KOOTENAY: Today is the second of eight regular season meetings between the Hitmen and ICE. Kootenay took their first by a score of 5-3 back on opening night for both teams in September. Last season in four meetings at the 'Dome, Calgary went 1-1-1-1 against the ICE. The two teams will meet again in just five days on Friday, Nov. 16 in Cranbrook.

FAST FACTS: Calgary has only been outshot in three of their 19 games this season...Today is the fifth of six straight games for the Hitmen against teams from their own division....James Malm has 18 shots on goal in his first four games with the Hitmen since arriving in a trade from Vancouver. During that time he has recorded a goal and an assist.

ON THIS DAY: Today marks the third year in a row the Hitmen will play a game on Remembrance Day. In 2017 they dropped a 4-3 overtime decision to the Tigers in Medicine Hat. Max Gerlach scored the winner with 6.5 seconds left in the extra session. In 2016, Calgary was a 3-1 winner on their U.S. road trip in Seattle. Hitmen Goaltender Cody Porter made 27 saves while Matteo Gennaro (1g, 2a) tallied three points.

TEDDY BEAR TICKETS: Due to overwhelming demand press-level seating is open for The Brick Teddy Bear Toss. Tickets are available starting at $14.99 for adults and $9.99 for students and kids (plus applicable fees and taxes). Limited second level seating also remains. Fans are encouraged to bring a new small or medium-sized stuffed toy to toss onto the ice when the Calgary Hitmen score their first goal on Sunday, December 9 against the visiting Kamloops Blazers. Game time at the 'Dome is 2:00 p.m.

BROTHER BATTLE: Today's game features a sibling rivalry as Hitmen defenceman Dakota Krebs faces his brother Payton from the Kootenay ICE. There is also a third Krebs' in the WHL system as Dru was drafted in May of 2018 by Medicine Hat.

PLAYER SPOTLIGHT: Luke Coleman is in his fifth and final WHL season. The 20-year-old forward from Red Deer, AB was originally selected by the Prince Albert Raiders in the fifth round of the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft. Last season with the Hitmen he tallied 39 points (15g, 24a) in 72 games. This season Coleman, who is a full-time alternate captain, has 10 points (5g, 5a) in 19 games.

POST-GAME AUTOGRAPHS: Meet defenceman Vladislav Yeryomenko after today's game. Yeryomenko will be signing autographs at the Hitmen Booster Club table located behind section 212.

HITMEN ALUMNUS: Jake Bean, who played parts of four seasons with the Hitmen from 2014-18, is in the AHL with the Charlotte Checkers. The Carolina Hurricanes prospect has six points (2g, 4a) in 13 games. Bean sits 16th all-time on the franchise's regular season points list with 175. That is fourth among defenceman trailing only Matt Kinch, Kenton Smith and Michael Stone.

PROSPECT WATCH: Luc Benedictson, Calgary's eighth-round pick, 161st overall, in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft is in the Manitoba Midget Hockey League with the Winnipeg Wild. The 16-year-old forward is ninth in team scoring with seven points (3g, 4a) in 12 games.

WORLD STAGE: Luke Prokop joined Hockey Canada at the 2018 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. The eight-team tournament saw Prokop and Canada White finish sixth. The Hitmen defenceman recorded one assist in five games. Prokop became the 28th player in franchise history to participate in the tournament joining fellow teammates Jackson van de Leest (2017), Carson Focht (2016), Jake Kryski (2014), Carl Stankowski (2016) and Riley Stotts (2016). Focht won gold with Canada White while van de Leest helped Canada Red capture silver.

CORRAL SERIES: The Hitmen will play a trio of regular season games this season at the historic Stampede Corral. "The Corral Series" presented by Adrenalin Source for Sports, will see the Hitmen host the Brandon Wheat Kings on Friday, Feb. 1, the Regina Pats on Wednesday, Feb. 6 and the Prince Albert Raiders on Friday, Feb. 8. All will be 7:00 p.m. starts in the vintage building that first opened on Dec. 15, 1950 and was the original home of the Calgary Flames from 1980-83. Each game will be dedicated to a former elite team who once called the Stampede Corral home by wearing commemorative jerseys of the Calgary Centennials, Calgary Wranglers and Calgary Cowboys. The series will feature a number of exciting events including an opening night pre-game celebration and beer gardens, a luncheon, merchandise and other activities that will make this a week to remember. Tickets go on sale Nov. 26.

ROSTER MOVES: On Oct. 31, the Hitmen acquired forward James Malm and a conditional pick in the 2020 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft from the Vancouver Giants in exchange for forward Tristen Nielsen. On Oct. 30 the Hitmen acquired a sixth-round selection in the 2020 WHL Bantam Draft from the Saskatoon Blades in exchange for forward Zack Huber. On Oct. 6 the Hitmen acquired a fourth-round selection in the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft and a conditional fifth-round pick in 2020 from the Tri-City Americans in exchange for defencemen Dom Schmiemann.

HITMEN GO GREEN: On National Tree Day, the Calgary Hitmen announced their participation in an environmental initiative called One Ticket, One Tree. The Hitmen will begin a pilot project where a tree will be planted for reforestation projects in the province for each game day and group ticket sold to the One Ticket, One Tree game when they host the Oil Kings on Mar. 8 at 7:00 p.m. In addition, Hitmen players are in the community this season doing their part to reduce their ecological footprint and bringing awareness to local environmental issues.
