Vancouver, B.C. - The Vancouver Giants (13-4-2-0) earned a weekend split with the visiting Prince George Cougars (8-8-1-2). Sunday afternoon at the Langley Events Centre the Cougars earned a 1-0 victory over the Giants. Ethan Browne's power play marker at the eight-minute mark of the first period was all the visitors would need. Giants goaltender David Tendeck stopped 31 of the 32 shots fired his way by Prince George while Isaiah DiLaura earned his first career WHL shutout stopping all 26 Vancouver shot attempts.
1st Period:
Ethan Browne put the Cougars ahead 1-0 on a power play goal at the exact eight-minute mark of the first period. Browne's goal came off a slick pass from Vladislav Mikhalchuk. Browne's fourth came on one of the 12 shots that the Cougars fired on the Giants goal. Vancouver responded with eight shots on the Cougar net.
2nd Period:
Neither team solved the other in period two. David Tendeck was razor sharp for the Giants stopping 12 Cougar shot attempts, while Isaiah DiLaura turned aside 10 shots fired his way in the middle frame.
3rd Period:
The Giants and Cougars each fired eight shots on the other in the final period but to no avail. The Cougars were unsuccessful in a 43 second five-on-three power play while the Giants came up empty on two power play attempts themselves. Bowen Byram nearly tied the game for the Giants - But his shot from the high slot went off the crossbar, bounced along the goal line, but never crossed it.
