
Maier Stands Tall to Lead Blades to Weekend Sweep

Gary Haden opened the scoring midway through the first period on the power play with his 6th of the season and 5th as a member of the Blades. Josh Paterson added the assist. Cole Muir answered back for Kootenay late in the opening period to tie the game at 1-1 after the first. Seth Bafaro sent a high shot from the point over that bounced off the glass, onto the top of the net, and off the back of ICE netminder Jesse Makaj before falling into the net. Kirby Dach assisted on Bafaro's 2nd which would end up being the final goal of the game.
TURNING POINT
Nolan Maier stretched out to make a highlight reel toe save on Owen Peterson in the 2nd period. It was the first of many jaw-dropping saves from Maier who was stellar all game making 31 saves for his 2nd consecutive 1st star of the game honours.
TOP PERFORMERS
Nolan Maier's 31 save performance was no doubt the best of all players on Saturday night earning his 10th win of the season.
Gary Haden scored for a second straight game to earn 3rd star honours. He now has 7 points in 8 games with the Blades.
Kirby Dach extended his point streak to 4 games with an assist, 4 shots on goal, and a +1 rating.
NOTEWORTHY NUMBERS
Seth Bafaro scored his 2nd goal of the season, and 2nd in his last 3 games.
Nolan Maier saw a total 68 shots this weekend and stopped 66.
Penalty Kill went 5/5 tonight and 8/8 on the weekend.
UNSUNG HERO
Brandon Schuldhaus brought the physical edge throughout the game and came up big with a shot block in the final minute with the ICE pressing with an extra attacker.

The Blades get set for a three game home stand beginning on Tuesday at SaskTel Centre at 7:00pm vs the Medicine Hat Tigers.
