Lake Erie Crushers News Release

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. -- The Lake Erie Crushers used a pair of three run innings to score their fourth win of their current road trip, as they defeated the Traverse City Beach Bums, 6-3 at Wuerfel Park on Saturday night.

The Crushers (46-33) are now 11-3 in August, and they've won 13 of their last 15 overall, while the loss for the Beach Bums (32-48) was their fourth in a row.

While two-out hits keyed the Crushers in the first inning, they were very good with runners in scoring position all night long, hitting .500 (6-for-12) on the night with men in scoring position.

The scoring started right away, as Lake Erie used a trio of two-out hits to take a 3-0 lead. Adam Ford was on second base, when Anderson Hidalgo stroked a two-out single to right to bring Ford home. Vince Mejia followed with a double to left, bringing Hidalgo home in the process, and Joey Burney completed the big inning with a RBI single to center.

Lake Erie plated their next three runs in the fourth inning, as the middle of the order went to work to put the game away. The bases were loaded with one out when Andrew Davis belted a two-run single through the right side, and Hidalgo followed with a RBI single to left.

Traverse City scored their first run in the bottom of the fourth, as Jovan Rosa came home after Zach Gordon (3-3) was called for a balk. In the fourth, they recorded their first two hits of the game and plated two more runs.

Rosa started the rally with two outs on a single, and he scored the first of two runs that inning on Scott Woodward's RBI single. With runners at the corners, Woodward took off for second, and Emmanuel Quiels's errant throw to second ended up in center field, allowing another run to score.

The Beach Bums put one last threat together in the bottom of the ninth. Yazy Arbello started the inning with a single, and two batters later, Kevin Taylor reached on a single to right. Trevor Longfellow (7) then retired the final two batters on groundouts to seal the deal.

Gordon scored the victory for the Crushers, after allowing three runs on just two hits and fanning three in five innings of action. Longfellow tossed 1.1 innings of scoreless relief to grab his second save of the trip. Casey Delgado (6-5), who tossed seven scoreless innings against the Crushers two months ago, took the loss this time around after allowing six runs on nine hits over six innings.

Hidalgo led the way for the Crushers, with a 3-for-5 performance with a pair of RBIs. Quiles hit safely twice on the night, going 2-for-5, while Davis went 1-for-5 and drove in two more runs, giving him six RBIs on the trip.

The Crushers will finish their three-game series with the Traverse City Beach Bums at Wuerfel Park on Sunday night. Righty Zac Treece (5-3, 3.43) will start for the Crushers and right-hander Scott Vachon (2-1, 4.94) will start for the Beach Bums. The first pitch is scheduled for 5:05 PM.
