Normal CornBelters News Release

Rockford, Ill. - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, broke up a pitchers' duel in the seventh inning in a 5-1 win over the Rockford Aviators on Saturday night at Aviators Stadium.

Both starters dealt through six innings, but the CornBelters broke through in the seventh when Aaron Dudley led off by drawing the first walk off Aviators hurler Ryan Zimmerman, then was sacrificed to second and went to third on a base hit by Ozney Guillen, scoring on a passed ball that also sent Guillen to third. Guillen scored on a sacrifice fly to left field by Dylan Kelly.

The Belters added three runs in the eighth inning with a bases-loaded-and-clearing double by Tyler Shover with two outs to push the advantage to 5-0.

The Aviators scored their run in the ninth by reaching Belters starter Matt Packer with a double and a single to lead off the frame, ending his night. A fielder's choice by Ryan Breen plated the final run.

Packer (3-2) earned the win with eight-plus innings, giving up six hits with one walk and 11 strikeouts. Zimmerman (7-5) took the loss with 6 2/3 innings, giving up four hits and two runs (one earned) with two walks and eight strikeouts.

The Belters conclude the brief road trip with a 5:05 p.m. Sunday game in Rockford as the Belters send right-hander Mike Devine (1-1, 5.45 ERA) to the hill against Aviators lefty Tony Butler (0-1, 18.69). The Belters return home Tuesday to begin a nine-game home stand starting with a crucial three-game series against the Schaumburg Boomers.

Although Monday is not a game day, the Belters host their final coaches show of the season from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Monday at the Tavern at Parke Regency Hotel in Bloomington, and fans are invited to attend or listen online at www.normalbaseball.com. The games can be heard live at www.normalbaseball.com beginning 10 minutes before the scheduled first pitch.
