Last time out...
Casey Henn (7-5) tossed seven strong innings; Jacob Tanis went yard, and the Florence Freedom (33-44) locked down the Joliet Slammers (30-49) by a final score of 4-1 Friday night at UC Health Stadium. Joliet took an early lead when Christopher Epps drew a walk to start the first. Russell Moldenhauer singled him to third and Grant DeBruin singled Epps home to put the Slammers up 1-0. In the bottom of the first Sam Eberle drew a walk with two away against Joliet starter Andrew Strenge (0-1). That's when Tanis stepped to the plate and launched his fourth home run of the season to put the Freedom up 2-1. A Zak Blair two-RBI single added a couple of insurance runs later in the game. Henn did not allow a hit after the first inning as he went seven innings, giving up only the two hits and one run. He walked five batters and struck out three to pick up his team-leading seventh win of the year.
For Starters...
Peter Gehle makes his 16th start of the season for the Freedom. He is coming off a strong outing against the Normal CornBelters on August 10, going eight innings, giving up three runs on three hits in a tough 3-2 loss. Gehle is looking for his first win since July 6. Gehle, 26, is a former 27th round draft pick of the Chicago White Sox in 2010 out of Azusa Pacific University. The Flagstaff, Arizona native spent two years in the White Sox organization before joining Sioux Falls of the American Association in 2012. He spent 2013 in the AA as well, this time with the Winnipeg Goldeyes.
