Burrows Fans Nine in Erie's 7-1 Win

Beau Burrows' seven inning, nine strikeout showing lifted the Erie SeaWolves (43-49) past the Altoona Curve (48-41) 7-1 Sunday at UPMC Park.

Daz Cameron got the scoring started with a bang in the first inning on Pedro Vasquez. The 21-year-old cranked his 5th homer of the season on a two-run bomb to make it 2-0 Erie.

The SeaWolves connected off of the righty again in the second inning. Vasquez walked Josh Thole and allowed a Herlis Rodriguez double to get the frame off to a rocky start. Cam Gibsondrove in a run on a sac fly to propel Erie up 3-0. Vasquez buried a ball in the dirt for a wild pitch that brought Rodriguez home from third. The righty was taken off of the mound after an apparent injury, and Altoona placed Logan Sendelbach to the mound. Danny Woodrow doubled on a bouncer down the right field line, and then Sergio Alcantara was promptly walked. With two men on, Daz Cameron punched an RBI-single to center field. After Josh Lester walked, Will Maddoxcracked a high fly to right, bringing in another run on a sac fly. Erie ended the inning leaving the bases loaded, but managed to rack up four to go up 6-0.

Altoona scored their only run off of Beau Burrows in the top of the sixth inning. Logan Ratledgelaunched a solo shot into left to put the Curve on the board. After the long ball, Burrows struck out the next three batters.

The Curve had to put a position player on the mound in the bottom of the sixth, as Ratledge moved from third to the mound. The knuckleballer hurled a scoress sixth, but Erie knotched a run on him in the seventh. Danny Woodrow plated a run on a sac fly tor right to jump up 7-1.

Caleb Thielbar and Mark Ecker worked in relief to pitch a scoreless 8th and 9th, and Erie triumphed 7-1.

Burrows (7-6) labored a season-high 7.0 IP, only allowed one run on three hits, two walks, and nine strikeouts. Vasquez (2-6) took the loss for the Curve after giving up the game's first four runs on four hits, one walk and one strikeout.

The SeaWolves start out a three game series on the road against the Richmond Flying Squirrels on Monday at 6:35 PM. RHP Alex Faedo (0-0, 5.65 ERA) will take the mound at The Diamond for the SeaWolves.
