LANSING, Mich. - The Lansing Lugnuts (31-22) began interdivisional play with a 6-3 loss to the Burlington Bees (27-26) Wednesday at Cooley Law School Stadium. Lansing remains first in the Eastern Division, two games ahead of Bowling Green.
The Bees stung the Lugs for five runs in the second against the Midwest League's wins leader Shane Dawson (Loss, 7-3). Dawson went three innings, allowed four earned runs, and struck out six.
The bullpen dominated the rest of the game for Lansing. Dusty Isaacs struck out three batters and did not allow a hit Tim Mayza pitched the final three innings and allowed one hit.
The trio combined for 14 strikeouts, tied for the most the Lansing pitching staff has recorded in a game this season.
Bees starter Austin Robichaux (Win, 4-2) went six innings and allowed three runs.
Ronald Muck relieved Robichaux in the seventh and worked two innings. Eduardo Paredes took over in the ninth and notched his ninth save of the campaign.
The Lansing offense combined for nine hits, including three by the Tim Locastro, who batted ninth. Locastro has twelve multi-hit games, one of six Lugs with at least ten multi-hit efforts.
D.J. Davis finished 1-for-4 with an RBI single, extending his on-base streak to 20 straight games.
Rowdy Tellez knocked in his league-leading 41st RBI of the season with a groundout in the seventh.
Catcher Mike Reeves made his Midwest League season debut and finished 1-for-3 with a walk.
The second game of the series is a Labatt Thirsty Thursday, with $2 beers and sodas and a 7:05 p.m. start. Conner Greene (4-2, 5.32 ERA) matches Jeremy Rhoades (4-3, 3.17 ERA) on the mound.
