Early Offense Enough to Beat Lugnuts

(Lansing-MI)- The Burlington Bees batted 10 times in the third inning, on Wednesday night, in a 6-3 win over the Lansing Lugnuts in Lansing Michigan.

After both starting pitchers traded 1-2-3 first innings, Zach Houchins kicked off the top of the second with a solo home run to left, his fifth of the season, putting the Bees on top 1-0. The Bees then had back-to-back singles by Caleb Adams and Wade Wass but could not add another run, stranding runners at second and third.

Jake Yacinich led off the top of the third inning with a single and moved to third on a Michael Hermosillo double off the center field wall. After Andrew Daniel lined out to second base, Zach Houchins lined a single to left, scoring Yacinich, upping the Bees' lead to 2-0. Caleb Adams added to the Bees' lead with a bunt single, scoring Hermosillo, extending the lead to 3-0. Wade Wass followed with a single, scoring Houchins and the Bees led 4-0. Ryan Seiz then hit a ground ball to third, hitting off the glove of the third baseman, Justin Atkinson, scoring Adams. Erick Salcedo drove in the final run of the frame with a bunt single, scoring Wass, upping the Bees' lead to 6-0.

Lansing got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when Bryan McBroom doubled and then came home to score on a D.J. Davis single, cutting the Bees' lead to 6-1. The Lugnuts added another in the bottom of the fifth inning. Chris Carlson led off with a double and moved to third on a Tim Locastro single. Anthony Alford drove in the Lugnuts second run of the game with a sacrifice fly, scoring Carlson, cutting the Bees' lead to 6-2. The Lugnuts put together back-to-back singles to start the bottom of the seventh inning. After a groundout moved the runners to second and third, Rowdy Tellez grounded out to second, scoring Locastro and the Bees' lead was cut to three at 6-3.

Ronnie Muck and Eduardo Paredes kept the Lugnuts off the board for the remainder of the game, Paredes pitched a scoreless ninth inning, allowing just one hit, earning his eighth save of the season. Bees' starter Austin Robichaux (4-2) earned the win, allowing three runs in six innings. Shane Dawson (7-3) was charged with the loss. The Bees and the Lugnuts continue their series Thursday night at 6:00 central standard time. Jeremy Rhoades starts for the Bees against Conner Greene for Lansing.
