Lake Erie Crushers News Release
Traverse City, MI - For one of the few times in their inaugural season, the Lake Erie Crushers offense was short-circuited as Traverse City picked up a 4-2 on a cool Thursday night matchup at Wuerfel Park.
Beach Bums starter Bret Bostelman held the Crushers hitless through four innings and he and the Traverse City bullpen kept Lake Erie off the board until there were two outs in the eighth inning. Bostelman worked seven and a third innings, allowing two runs on three hits with two strikeouts and a walk as he picked up his sixth win of the season. Trailing 3-0 in the top of the eighth, Andrew Davis came through with a two-run single to put the Crushers on the board. After a walk to Gordon Gronkowski, Traverse City closer David Hurst retired Tyler Johnson on a grounder to short to end the inning.
Traverse City picked up an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth when Robbie Alcombrack blooped a double into center to score Andrew Barbaro as the Crushers went into the ninth down by two. Hurst gave up a leadoff walk to Arden McWilliams in the ninth, but retired the next three men in order to earn his second save of the season. Crushers rookie Alberto Rolon suffered the loss in his first professional start, as he yielded two runs on six hits in his four innings on the mound. Gronkowski paced the Lake Erie offense with a two-for-three night that included two doubles and a walk.
The Crushers are now 35-26 on the season and will conclude their series with Traverse City on Friday night. Cardoza Tucker will make his first start as a Crusher on the mound against the Beach Bums' David Dinelli.
