TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. - The Traverse City Beach Bums used a solid pitching performance from All-Star Brett Bostelman to double up the Lake Erie Crusher 4-2 on Ladies Night at Wuerfel Park.

Brett Bostelman carried a shutout into the eighth inning and earned his first win since June 14 by throwing 7.1 innings. Bostelman retired the first 12 hitters of the game before a fifth inning double by Gordie Gronkowski. He walked one, struck out two, and allowed two runs on three hits.

His teammates gave him a 2-0 lead to work with in the third inning. Robby Alcombrack began the inning with a single and Andrew Stafford followed with a double off of Lake Erie starter Alberto Rolon, who made his first start of the season. With one out Mike Epping drove in the first run of the game with an infield single. Sean Hoorelbeke came through with a two-out ground rule double to center on the first pitch to plate Stafford. Rolon pitched just four innings and suffered the defeat.

The Beach Bums made it a 3-0 edge in the fifth inning. Mike Epping led off with his third hit of the game, stole second, went to third on an errant throw during the steal, and scored unearned when Sean Hoorelbeke grounded out.

Bostelman came out to begin the eighth inning but was lifted after allowing a one-out single to Wayne Bond and a four-pitch walk to pinch hitter Tim Binkoski. Shawn Joy relieved Bostelman and posted an out before two straight singles, the second of which came with the bases loaded off the bat of Andrew David and scored two runs. David Hurst was able to get out of the inning and also worked the ninth to record his second save. Traverse City got an insurance run when Robby Alcombrack doubled to center to score Andrew Barbaro.

Mike Epping's three hits led the Beach Bums attack. He also scored a run, stole a base, and drove in a run. Robby Alcombrack reached base four times, finishing 2-for-2 with two walks, a run, a double, and an RBI. Sean Hoorelbeke drove in two runs.

The Beach Bums will conclude the series with Lake Erie tomorrow night with a 7:05pm rubber game. RHP David Dinelli (1-3, 6.75) will get the call on the mound for the Beach Bums with RHP Cardoza Tucker set to make his Frontier League debut for Lake Erie. It will be Star Wars Night at Wuerfel Park featuring plenty of Star Wars themes and authentic storm troopers.
