Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
DURHAM, N.C. - Homers from Erik González and Lewin Díaz were not enough Wednesday for the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp in a 10-5 loss to the Durham Bulls from Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
With the score tied at three, René Pinto began the sixth with a single off Jumbo Shrimp (2-6) starter Braxton Garrett (0-1). A Ruben Cardenas triple put the Bulls (3-5) ahead before Ford Proctor singled in Cardenas. Later in the frame, Miles Mastrobuoni's RBI single gave Durham a 6-3 edge.
In relief of Calvin Faucher (1-1), Bulls reliever Chris Muller struck out the first man of the seventh before serving up a double to Norel González. Erik González then bopped a home run to right to pull Jacksonville within one.
Durham, though, responded immediately in their half of the seventh. Isaac Paredes homered before Tristan Gray delivered a two-run shot later in the frame to extend the margin to 9-5. A Paredes RBI ground out in the eighth capped the scoring at 10-5.
Jacksonville battled throughout the evening. Cardenas hit a sacrifice fly in the first and Niko Hulsizer launched a solo bomb in the second to make it 2-0. In favor of the Bulls
Peyton Burdick led off the fourth with a single before scoring on Díaz's two-run long ball to knot the score at two.
A Cardenas homer in the bottom of the fourth again put Durham in front. However, in the fifth, Bryson Brigman singled with two outs. He came all the way around to score on a Brian Miller single coupled with a Durham error for the 3-3 tie.
The Jumbo Shrimp and Bulls meet at 6:35 p.m. on Thursday from Durham Bulls Athletic Park. RHP Jeff Lindgren (0-0, 7.71 ERA) starts for Jacksonville, with coverage beginning at 6:20 p.m. on ESPN 690 and ESPN690.com.
