Louisville Bats News Release

OMAHA, NE - The Louisville Bats split a doubleheader with the Omaha Storm Chasers on Wednesday night at Werner Park. Louisville took game one 5-4, anchored by a two-RBI game from Ronnie Dawson, before dropping the nightcap by a score of 4-1.

Game one began on Tuesday night with Lucas Sims starting for Louisville on a major league rehab assignment. Sims, who is returning from back and elbow injuries, allowed a run and struck out one in an inning of work. He was replaced by Connor Overton who struck out four in 4.0-spotless innings of work.

Omaha held a 1-0 lead into the top of the fifth inning when the Bats tied the game on an infield RBI single from Cristian Santana. It was Santana's first RBI as a member of the Reds' organization.

In the top of the sixth, Ronnie Dawson launched a two-run home run over the center field fence, giving Louisville a 3-1 advantage. After three more batters, including two more hits, the game was suspended due to rain.

The Bats began with runners on first and third and one out in the sixth when the game resumed on Wednesday. Lorenzo Cedrola drove in Trey Amburgey on a ground ball to third before Alejo Lopez added to the lead with an RBI single.

The Storm Chasers scratched across single runs in the sixth, eighth and ninth innings, but Joel Kuhnel induced a ground out to secure a 5-4 Bats' victory and his first save of the season.

Game two was scoreless into the fourth inning thanks to outstanding starting pitching from Louisville's Randy Wynne and Omaha's Jon Heasley.

The Storm Chasers got on the board with a run in the fourth and three more in the sixth. Angelo Castellano led the way for Omaha with three hits and two RBIs. Emmanuel Rivera had two extra-base hits on the night, including his first home run of the season.

The Bats did score a run in the ninth inning on an RBI double from Jake Bauers that scored TJ Friedl, but that was all the scoring for Louisville in a 4-1 defeat.

Game three of the series is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. ET at Werner Park in Omaha. Graham Ashcraft is scheduled to start for Louisville, opposing Daniel Mengden.
