Hamilton Bulldogs News Release

HAMILTON, ON - Chris Higgins scored on his own rebound just 38 seconds into overtime to give the Hamilton Bulldogs a 3-2 victory over the Cleveland Barons at Copps Coliseum on Saturday night. The victory was the Bulldogs first on Copps Coliseum ice this season. Hamilton's record now improves to five wins, four losses, and one overtime loss on the season.

The Bulldogs opened the scoring at the 2:18 mark of the first period as Chad Kilger scored his first goal with the Bulldogs since Feb. 18th, 2000 (vs. the Louisville Panthers). Kilger was a member of the Edmonton Oilers organization at the time.

The Barons then responded with a goal Christian Ehrhoff at 5:11 of the first period. Bulldogs forward Jozef Balej rounded out the scoring in the period with a top-corner goal over the glove of Cleveland goaltender Dimitri Patzold.

Cleveland evened the game 2-2 in the second period (17:07) as Hamilton-born forward Todd Harvey scored his third goal of the season. The Bulldogs would then win the game in overtime on Higgins' goal.

Bulldogs goaltender Eric Fichaud picked up his third win of the season by making 25 saves. Patzold stopped 34 of 37 shots for the Barons.

On special teams the Bulldogs were one for six on the power play, while they prevented the Barons from scoring on six of their seven opportunities with the man-advantage.

The Hamilton Bulldogs next action will take place on Sunday, November 2nd (4:00 p.m.) as they host the Cleveland Barons (affiliate of San Jose Sharks), the second game of the two-game weekend series at Copps Coliseum in Hamilton. Tickets for the Sunday game are available for purchase at the Copps Coliseum Box Office, at all Ticketmaster outlets or by calling Ticketmaster at (905) 527-7666.
