
Bulldogs clinch second place with 3-2 win

Grand Rapids, MI - The Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Grand Rapids Griffins 3-2 on Friday night. With the win, the Bulldogs clinched second place in the North Division and home ice advantage in their first round series with the Griffins.
Grand Rapids opened the game's scoring at 8:08 of the first period. Mattias Ritola fired a shot towards the net. Jakub Kindl deflected the puck past Hamilton starting goaltender Marc Denis. Aaron Gagnon also earned an assist on the goal.
The Bulldogs tied the game 1-1 at 6:42 of the first frame. Yanick Lehoux received a pass from Max Pacioretty before sending the puck to Ben Maxwell. Maxwell snapped a shot past Grand Rapids starting goaltender Jimmy Howard.
Francis Lemieux gave the Griffins a 2-1 lead at 5:25 of the middle frame. Francis Lemieux received a pass from Garrett Stafford before firing a shot on net. The shot bounced inside Denis' glove before popping out and falling into the back of the net.
Mike Glumac tied the game 2-2, 44 seconds into the final frame. While stationed at the right point, Mathieu Carle blasted a shot on net. Glumac redirected the shot and the puck sailed past Howard. At 15:58, the Bulldogs took a 3-2 lead. Glumac blasted a shot that was saved by Howard. Howard could not control the rebound as David Desharnais grabbed the loose rebound and banged the puck past Howard for his second goal of the game. Carle also earned an assist on the goal, his second of the night.
The Bulldogs finish the 2008-2009 regular season tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. when they visit Ricoh Coliseum to battle the Toronto Marlies.
