ST. LOUIS (April 10, 2009) - St. Louis Blues President John Davidson announced today the club has assigned defenseman Alex Pietrangelo from his junior team, the Niagara Ice Dogs of the Ontario Hockey League to the Blues' American Hockey Affiliate, the Peoria Rivermen.

Pietrangelo, 19, a native of King City, Ontario, skated in eight games for the Blues this season, recording one assist along with two penalty minutes. He was assigned to Niagara on Nov. 13, 2008 and played in 36 games for the Ice Dogs, registering 29 points (eight goals, 21 assists) and 32 penalty minutes.

Pietrangelo made his second consecutive appearance at this season's OHL All-Star Game. The 6-2, 199-pound defenseman helped Team Canada capture the gold medal at the 2009 World Junior Championship. Pietrangelo finished last season ranked seventh among all OHL defensemen in scoring with 53 points (13 goals, 40 assists) while with the Ice Dogs and also participated in the 2008 CHL Top Prospects Game.

Pietrangelo was the Blues' first round pick, fourth overall, in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

The Rivermen look to lock up a second place finish tonight as they take on the IceHogs at 7:30 p.m. in Rockford. The game will be broadcast live on Hippie 101.1FM as well as online at www.rivermen.net.
