Des Moines Buccaneers News Release

In three of the Buccaneers' six wins this season their opponent has scored the first two goals. This Des Moines squad has found the resolve to come back time and time again and did it again in Sioux City, Iowa on Friday to pick up a 3-2 victory.

The Sioux City Musketeers owned the first period thanks to two power play goals, both scored by Josh Wilkins. His fifth and sixth goals of the season game at the 6:20 and 19:15 marks respectively as the Musketeers outshot Des Moines 13-8 in the period and went into the locker room with all the momentum.

Des Moines flipped the script in the second period as they came out hungry and despite having given up two power play goals it was down a man that the Buccaneers got their scoring going. A little over the halfway point in the period Zach Jordan took advantage of a Sioux City defenseman falling down and quickly had a 2 on 1 the other way with Ty Pelton-Byce. Jordan looked Pelton-Byce's way but then fired it top shelf beating Sioux City goaltender Cam Gornet high glove-side to put the Buccaneers on the scoreboard. Sioux City was awarded a penalty shot at 14:26 of the second period but Nick MacNab poke-checked the puck off the stick of Mitchell Fossier before he ever got a shot off to build some momentum. Nick Wolff drew a checking from behind major toward the end of the period that put the Buccaneers on a 5-minute major on the MidAmerican Energy Power Play and capitalized when Patrick Grasso scored into a yawning net off a feed from Kenny Hausinger at 18:54 of the period to tie the game shortly before the second intermission.

The Bucs were not done with that power play as they capitalized when Zach Jordan drove hard to the net and while Gornet was able to poke the puck off his stick that left a gift on the doorstep for Kenny Hausinger to outhustle everyone and slam it home. Nick MacNab made 26 saves in the victory, his first of the season, and the Bucs held on to win 3-2. The Buccaneers improved to 6-8-1 on the season and play the Omaha Lancers next on Saturday, November 14, on the road at Ralston Arena.
