Sioux Falls Stampede News Release

Sioux Falls, SD-Two nights after one of their worst performances of the year, the Stampede rebounded for one of their best performances this season with a 4-2 victory over the Omaha Lancers before 5,761 fans at the PREMIER Center on Friday night. Jack Suter and Parker Tuomie tallied a goal and an assist each in the victory.

Tuomie leads the league in points with 19 and goals with 13 in his first 15 games of the season. Suter extended his point scoring streak to seven games and Ales Stezka earned his fourth win of the season with 21 saves on the night as the Herd improved to 8-7-0 on the season and moved within four points of second place Omaha.

The game didn't get off to a good start for the Herd who committed an early penalty and Omaha took advantage on the power play just 5:03 into the contest. Brannon McManus sent a pass to the left circle where Brian Williams backhanded a shot past through the pads of Stampede goaltender Ales Stezka. The Lancers were unable to add to their lead and the Stampede would take advantage of a power play of their own at 12:08 to tie the game. Joseph Maguire sent a pass to the right point for Garrett Cecere who one-timed a shot perfectly into the upper left hand corner of the net to make it 1-1. Less than three minutes later the Herd grabbed their first lead of the night when A.J. Vanderbeck took a shot from deep in the left wing corner that nicked the glove of Omaha goaltender Kris Oldham and into the back of the net. Sioux Falls outshot Omaha 16-7 in the period.

The Stampede picked up right where they left off scoring just 1:03 into the period when Jack Suter sent a pass behind the net to Parker Tuomie who wrapped around the right post and into the net to give Sioux Falls a 3-1 lead and send all 5,761 fans to their feet. The goal was Tuomie's league leading 13th of the season in just 15 games. Omaha would respond the Stampede's goal at 5:24 when Austin Lemieux sent a pass onto the tape of Austin Alger who wristed a shot under the cross bar and into the net to bring the Lancers back within a goal at 3-2. Both teams would exchange some good scoring chances, but the Herd controlled much of the play, outshooting the Lancers 15-8 in the period.

The third period was full of more end-to-end excitement as the Herd looked to extend their lead, but Oldham kept the Herd off the board. The Herd had a golden opportunity to take a two goal lead at 10:23 when Collin Peters was awarded a penalty shot, but Oldham got his blocker on the puck and knocked it away to keep it 3-2. Later in the period the Stampede were awarded a four minute power play and generated scoring chances, but couldn't get the fourth goal. Sioux Falls was finally able to put the game away with 1:10 left in regulation when Jack Suter took the puck away from a Lancers defender and skated into an empty net to score his third of the season and seal the game at 4-2.

Sioux Falls outshot the Lancers 10-8 in the third period and 40-23 on the night, going 1-for-4 on the powerplay while the Lancers were 1-for-3.

The Herd host the Tri-City Storm on Saturday at 7:05 PM for Hydro-Klean Night. The first 1,000 fans through the doors will receive a free camouflage neck scarf compliments of Hydro-Klean. Doors open at 6 PM and tickets are available through the KELOLAND Box Office or any Ticketmaster location.
