Omaha Lancers News Release
Sioux Falls, SD - Brian Williams and Austin Alger each scored their fifth goal of the year and Kris Oldham made 37 saves but it wasn't enough as the Sioux Falls Stampede defeated the Omaha Lancers, 4-2, on Friday night in front of 5,761 fans at the Denny Sanford Premier Center.
Omaha took advantage of an early power play chance to gain the lead. After great work just inside the blue line by Josh French and Jacob Bryson, it was Brian Williams finishing for the 1-0 lead. Brannon McManus took a pass at the bottom of the left wing circle and sent it out to the front of the net immediately. Williams was denied initially, however, he buried his second chance just 5:03 into the game. It was Williams' fifth of the year assisted by Bryson and McManus.
Sioux Falls came right back with a power play tally of their own to even the score. Joseph MaGuire played the puck across to the right side for an awaiting Garrett Cecere who fired a one-timer by goaltender Kris Oldham. The goal was Cecere's first in eight games and came at 12:08 of the opening period. Assists on the tying goal were credited to McGuire with the pass to Cecere and Collin Peters.
Just over three minutes later, a good bounce for the Stampede helped them take their first lead of the night. From below the goal line, AJ Vanderbeck was credited with the goal after the puck went off Oldham from behind and into the net at 15:19 of the first frame. The lone assist on Vanderbeck's third on the year was given to Shane Sellar.
Parker Tuomie added to his goal total at 1:03 of the second period to move the Stampede out to a 3-1 advantage. Tuomie moved down the left wing side, behind the back of the net, and wrapped the puck inside the left post by the left leg pad of Kris Oldham. With the goal, Tuomie picked up his 13th goal of the year and 18th point overall to give the Stampede a two-goal lead. Jack Suter and Joe Rutkowski had the helpers.
Austin Alger pulled the Omaha Lancers back within a single goal at 5:24 of the second period. Austin Lemieux had a chance but couldn't convert. Alger picked up the loose puck and skated out to the top of the right wing circle. He then sent a snap shot by Ales Stezka for his fifth of the season. Alger's goal was assisted by Austin Lemieux, his first USHL point, to make the deficit 3-2 heading into the final period.
With the net empty, Sioux Falls tacked on a goal with just over one minute left in the game for the 4-2 victory. Lancers' goaltender Kris Oldham stopped 37 of 40 shots he faced in the loss.
