Buccaneers lose to Waterloo

Des Moines Buccaneers News Release

A big second period for the Waterloo Blackhawks prevented the Des Moines Buccaneers an opportunity for a come from behind victory on the road.

Des Moines applied pressure early, outshooting Waterloo 12-6 in the opening frame, but Waterloo goaltender Drew Hotte, playing in just his second game of the season, was perfect in net for the home team. An even strength goal from Garrett Wait at the 11:45 mark was the only goal through the first 20 minutes.

The second period was much more successful for the Waterloo side as they got the scoring going just 1:41 into the period after an odd-man rush and tic-tac-toe passing resulted in a highlight reel goal from Yuri Terao from inside the crease. David Cotton beat Des Moines goaltender Nick MacNab upstairs glove-side with a power play goal at 9:16 to make it a 3-0 lead, and Waterloo extended that lead with goals at 14:55 and 17:58 of the period to head to the locker room up 5-0.

Des Moines was able to put 13 shots on the goaltender Hotte in the third period, but were unable to get one past him as he turned a 30-save performance into a first star of the game award. Yuri Terao picked up his second goal of the evening 1:59 into the third period to finish the scoring for the game.

The Buccaneers' next game is Saturday, November 21st, with a 7:05 pm puck drop against Team USA U18. It's Combat Hunger Night which means donating a non-perishable food item will get you $3 off your ticket. For more information call the box office at 278-2827.
