Sioux Falls Stampede News Release

Kearney, NE-Parker Tuomie tallied a goal and three assists, but the Stampede's comeback attempt came up just short in a 5-4 loss to the Tri-City Storm Friday night at the Viaero Center. The Herd fell to 9-8-0 on the season and have split the first two games of a three-game series against the Storm. Sioux Falls topped Tri-City 2-1 in Sioux Falls last Saturday. Collin Peters tallied two goals in the game for the Herd while Stefanos Lekkas stopped 31 shots in goal.

After a fast start to the game for the Herd, it would be the Storm (6-7-3) who strike first as Collin Rutherford who sent a back door pass to Wade Allison who one-timed the shot past Stampede goaltender Stefanos Lekkas 6:57 into the contest. The Storm would add to their lead at 10:40 of the period when Jake Wahlin deflected a shot from the left point into the upper right hand corner of the net to make it 2-0. The Herd wouldn't let the period end without getting on the board as Collin Peters notched his eighth goal of the season on the power play with 58 seconds remaining in the period when Peters wrister from the right circle beat Tri-City goaltender Jake Kielly and make it a 2-1 game at the end of one period. Sioux Falls outshot the Storm 12-9 in the period.

The Stampede tied the game 1:42 into the second period when Peters struck again, this time he took a pass from Parker Tuomie and drove in front of the net and beating Kielly under his right pad. It stayed that way until the 11:42 mark when the Storm regained the lead with a power play goal at 11:25 when Jake Wahlin sent a pass in front of the net that hit the back skate of Stampede goaltender Lekkas and into the back of the net. Tri-City would take a 4-2 lead at 15:55 when Nico Sturm found the back of the net on the power play. The Herd would go on a power play of their own and took advantage before the end of the period Garrett Cecere sent a pass into the high slot to Tuomie who one-timed the puck and blasted it just underneath the cross bar to pull the Herd back within a goal at 4-3 at the end of the second period. Tri-City outshot the Herd 10-7 in the period.

Sioux Falls looked for the equalizer in the third, but the Storm would once again regain their two goal advantage, this time at 6:17 of the third when Paul Washe's wrister beat Lekkas to give Tri-City a 5-3 edge. The Herd wouldn't go away quietly again as Jack Suter provided a power play goal at 11:45. Tuomie sent a pass to the left of the Storm goal and Suter wristed a shot through the pads of Kielly and pulled the Stampede back within a goal. The Herd would pull Lekkas in the final 90 seconds and created some quality scoring chances, but the Herd could not get the tying goal and came up short on the night.

Sioux Falls finished the night 3-for-6 power play while the Storm went 2-for-5. Tri-City outshot the Stampede 36-35 on the night. The Stampede will go for the three-game series win against the Storm Saturday night at 7:05 PM.
