USHL Madison Capitols

Caps Host RoughRiders on Stuff the Bus Night

November 20, 2015 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Madison Capitols News Release

Madison, WI - The Madison Capitols will welcome more than just the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders on Friday night at the Alliant Energy Center, as the team will host its "Stuff the Bus" donation drive, in conjunction with The River Food Pantry. Gates will open at 6 p.m., with game time set for 7:05 p.m.

At last year's event, over 500 pounds of food were donated and supplied to the pantry during its busy Thanksgiving season.

Fans are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items, household cleaning supplies and toiletries, as well as monetary donations. All fans that donate upon entry will receive a ticket to a future Capitols game; they will have their choice of either Sunday, Dec. 5 vs. Fargo or Sunday, Jan. 17 vs. Cedar Rapids.

The River Food Pantry is Dane County's busiest food pantry, offering free groceries, meals, and clothing to anyone who comes for help. Located in a warehouse just off Northport Drive and Packers Avenue, The River provides a warm and welcoming family atmosphere where everyone is treated with respect, encouraged to find the support they need, and given the opportunity to share what they can with others.

The River feeds more than 600 Dane County families per week, going through 35 thousand pounds of food every seven days, or about 1.8 million pounds of food each year.

On the ice, the Capitols will be looking to snap a five-game losing skid as they take on Cedar Rapids for the second time in seven nights. The RoughRiders broke up their own two-game losing streak by edging the Capitols, 2-1 on Nov. 14 at the Alliant Energy Center. Garrett Metcalf was perhaps the Capitols' best player, stopping 37 of 39 RoughRider shots in the game.

At the other end of the ice, Madison opened the scoring in the second period courtesy of Eetu Selanne's third of the season, but the Capitols would get no more. The special teams continue to struggle for Madison, with the power play now 0 for its last 26 over the span of nine games.

Following the matchup with Cedar Rapids, the Capitols hit the snowy road on Saturday for their first visit to the Chicago Steel's new venue, the Fox Valley Ice Arena, for a 7:00 p.m. matchup tomorrow evening.

Coverage of both Friday and Saturday's games will kick off at 7 on 106.7 FM, 1670 AM, The Zone, online at www.madcitysportszone.com, and on the TuneIn radio app.

Tickets to all upcoming Capitols home games can be purchased by calling (608) 257-CAPS or by visiting www.MadCapsHockey.com. A full promotional schedule can also be seen on the Capitols' web page under the Tickets tab.
