Des Moines Buccaneers News Release
The defending Clark Cup Champion Sioux Falls Stampede got goals in every period and were able to keep the Buccaneers off the board even strength all night and came away with a 5-2 home victory on Saturday.
Sioux Falls struck first in the game at the 14:31 mark of the first period when Csanad Erdely cut in from Jan Ruzicka's left and buried his own rebound to give the Stampede a 1-0. It took a little over a minute for the Buccaneers to respond with a MidAmerican Energy power play goal. Georgy Gorodetsky took the puck from behind the goal line and switched it from right to left where Patrick Grasso then slid a pass to Zach Jordan in the low slow and Jordan beat Stefanos Lekkas low on the stick side to tie the game at one apiece. Sioux Falls outshot the visiting Buccaneers 11-9 in the first frame.
Sioux Fall again took the lead in the 2nd period when Eric MacAdams took the puck in from the right wing side and switched it over to the left side where Jack Becker fired a shot that Ruzicka made a pad save on but left a rebound for former Buccaneer AJ Vanderbeck to tip in 4:21 into the second period. Des Moines kept Lekkas busy in the period with a lot of quality shots thanks in part to two MidAmerican Energy power play chances but the Buccaneers couldn't beat Lekkas in the frame and Sioux Falls enjoyed a 2-1 lead into the third period.
Matt Riggleman buried a pass from Jack Suter just 3:59 into the third period to give Sioux Falls a two goal cushion and that lead would stand until the Bucs picked up their second MidAmerican Energy power play goal of the game. Ty Pelton-Byce threw the puck into the crease where Kenny Housinger tapped it home 9:27 into the third period to cut the lead to 3-2 Sioux Falls. That is as close as Des Moines would get however as Josh Passolt scored a breakaway goal at 13:53 of the period and then he also added an empty netter at 18:45 to seal the win. Stefanos Lekkas made 21 saves in the win and Jan Ruzicka came up with 23 saves on 27 shots on goal in the loss.
Up next for Des Moines is back to back home games against the Lincoln Stars on Friday, February 12th and the Madison Capitols on Saturday, February 13th.
