Bloomington Thunder News Release
MUSKEGON, Michigan - In the final moments of the third period, Bloomington Thunder forward Logan Lambdin's shooting persistence would pay off in the form of a 3-2 win. Saturday night from the L.C. Walker Arena the Thunder forward helped the team rebound for their 22 win of the year. The Thunder (22-13-3-1) came from behind to take the win and put themselves two points closer to playoff contention. The Lumberjacks (15-17-2-2) fall victim to the weekend split and are in the final spot in the Eastern Conference.
Tarek Baker (University of Wisconsin) continued his historic season for the Thunder, netting his 18th goal of the season in the first period. Just over three minutes in the Wisconsin commit caught a mini breakaway pass over the blue line from Alec Mehr and Patrick Curry before he took it in for the goal. He has 20 points (13g, 7a) over his last 13 games and leads the Thunder with 34 points (18g, 16a)
Some big saves by Joey Daccord (Arizona State University, Ottawa Senators) and a big 5-on-3 penalty kill by Muskegon kept the Thunder from extending the lead on 15 shots in the first period. The team would go 1-for-6 on the power play during the night, 5-of-5 on the penalty kill, and outshoot Muskegon for the second straight game 39 to 26.
The 'Jacks cracked the scoreboard twice in the second period. After an odd man rush was broken up by Bloomington, the puck rested in the high slot of the Thunder zone. Grant Gabriele (Western Michigan University) stepped over the line and sent the puck in on a slapshot. His fifth of the year gave tied the game just over the halfway point of the night.
The leading scorer for the Lumberjacks and the United States Hockey League Rem Pitlick (University of Minnesota) scored in back-to-back nights. This time it was from the circle after a Muskegon faceoff win to take the 2-1 lead. The Plymouth, MI native now has 26 this season. On the play Matej Paulovic (Dallas Stars) picked up his sixth multi point game of the season with two assists in the game.
Captain Jake Slaker (St. Lawrence University) netted his ninth of the year by battling in front of the net 4:33 into the third. The power play goal first hit the post before resting in the crease for the San Diego, CA native to bat home. The goal tied the game in the third and gave Curry his second assist of the game.
Logan Halladay (Merrimack College) posted a scoreless third period with eight saves and 24 over the course of the game, picking up his sixth win of the season. In the third he came away with a game saver to keep the Thunder tied.
The final goal came from Lambdin to seal the game less than two minutes remaining. Slaker crossed over the line to drop the pass to the Carleton, MI native who's wrist shot beat Daccord between the blocker and his body. His 17th of the season gave him 28 points in his sophomore season.
Despite the loss, Daccord made 36 saves in the decision for the second straight night. Head to head, the Thunder are now 2-2-1 this season with their Michigan based rivals.
