Bruins fall in home opener

The Providence Bruins opened up their 13th AHL season on Friday night in front of 9,765 fans at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Providence, falling to the Springfield Falcons, 4-3. The loss was the Bruins' first in a home opener since the 1996-97 season.

Bruin forwards Brad Boyes and Martin Samuelsson scored, as did defenseman Pat Aufiero. Left wing Andy Hilbert added two assists, while center Patrice Bergeron had one assist in his Providence Bruins debut.

Goaltender Hannu Toivonen stopped 23 of the 27 shots he faced in taking the loss.

The Bruins visit the Lowell Lock Monsters on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. Catch all the action live on WDDZ AM-550, and online at www.providencebruins.com.

The Bruins return home to host Springfield again on Sunday, October 17 at 4:05 p.m. The first 5,000 fans in attendance will receive a free Providence Bruins magnet schedule, courtesy of Shaw's Supermarkets.
