'Cats Officially Sign Two

WORCESTER, MA- IceCats General Manager of Hockey Operations Larry Pleau, today confirmed the signings of defenseman Brendan Buckley and center Ryan Ramsay. The announcement comes just a day before the IceCats home opener in Worcester, Saturday evening at 7:05 PM.

Buckley, a 27-year-old native of Needham, Massachusetts, is set to embark on his sixth season as a professional. After a successful four year run at Boston College, the 6-2, 205 pound defenseman turned pro for the 1999-2000 campaign. He gained a season's experience in combined time with the UHL's Quad City Mallards and the AHL's Cincinnati Mighty Ducks before signing as a free agent with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Buckley played three plus seasons and over 300 games with the Pens AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre/ Scranton, ahead of being traded to the Blue Jackets organization with just 30 games remaining in the 2003-2004 season. Buckley's regular season career numbers through 363 games reflect eight goals and 59 points: 363(8/51/59).

After leading the IceCats in preseason scoring, Ramsay is set to make his professional debut. The 5-11, 200 pound center notched a game-winning goal and four assists in four exhibition games: 4(1/4/5). Ramsay, a resident of Ajax, Ontario, previously spent five prosperous seasons in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). The 2002-2003 season with Plymouth brought career highs in goals (33), assists (55) and points (88). Last season with the Whalers, he reeled in 29 goals, 77 points and a career high 132 PIM's. His OHL totals include 295 regular season games, 115 goals, 168 assists and 283 points.

The IceCats begin their 11th season in the American Hockey League (AHL) on Friday night in Manchester, New Hampshire. The ‘Cats home opener is Saturday night against the Springfield Falcons at 7:05 PM. Tickets are just $16 for adults and $11 for kids and seniors.
