Hershey Bears News Release

The AHL's longest running franchise opens a new season tonight in southeast Virginia against East Division rival Norfolk. The game comes one day before HERSHEY'S home opener at GIANT Center. The BEARS enjoyed a 7-2-1-0 record against the Admirals in 2003-04, including a victory on April 10th at GIANT Center. HERSHEY defeated Norfolk 3-1 on April 10th behind two goals from Chris Bala the last time the two teams hooked up. The all-time series between the clubs is tied at 16-16-4-2.

Defenseman Tomas Slovak and Darrel Scoville will miss the game in Norfolk due to injury. Both players did not accompany the team to Virginia. Rookies Johnny Boychuk and Ryan Steeves are expected to make their professional debuts this evening at Norfolk Scope, while veteran defenseman Ed Campbell is expected to make his HERSHEY debut tonight. Campbell played for the Providence Bruins last year.

Tonight's game can be heard on the BEARS radio network, with WTKT-AM 1460 carrying the game live in Harrisburg and Hershey. WLAN-AM 1390 will carry the game in Lancaster. John Walton returns for his third season behind the microphone live from Norfolk tonight beginning at 7:15 p.m with the pregame show.

Tickets are still available for tomorrow's home opener at GIANT Center against Norfolk. For tickets, call (717) 534-3911 or visit the GIANT Center box office.
