Opening night sellout streak reaches nine

Grand Rapids, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League have announced that tonight's 2004-05 season opener against the Cleveland Barons at Van Andel Arena is sold out. For the ninth time in as many seasons, a capacity crowd of 10,834 will witness the Griffins' home debut.

The game, which marks the 99th sellout in franchise history, will be broadcast live on Newsradio WOOD 1300, beginning with the pre-game show at 6:50 p.m. Bob Kaser and John Matlak will describe the action both over the air and through WOOD's new internet streaming service, accessible through a link at griffinshockey.com.

After playing their next three games on the road, the Griffins will return to Van Andel Arena on Tuesday, Oct. 26 to face the Rochester Americans and kick off a franchise-record nine-game home stand that will run though Nov. 18.

Individual tickets for all 2004-05 home games are on sale through Star Tickets Plus outlets (222-4000 or 800-585-3737), all West Michigan Meijer stores and The Zone, located on the west side of Van Andel Arena. They may also be purchased on-line at griffinshockey.com. Ticket prices are $5, $13 and $15 in the arena's upper bowl, and $17, $20 and $25 in the lower bowl.
