Bridgeport Islanders News Release

Providence, RI - Sound Tigers' defenseman, Joe Callahan opened the scoring early in the first period but it wasn't enough, as the Providence Bruins would rattle off four tallies to beat the Sound Tigers 4-1. Mike Iggulden extended his point-scoring streak to four games with an assist on Callahan's marker. The Sound Tigers drop to 23-10-2-2 keeping them in second place in the East Division with 50 points.

The Sound Tigers would take the 1-0 lead, 7:52 into the first period. Vladimir Nikiforov started the play in front of the Sound Tigers' bench, snapping a cross-ice pass to Mike Iggulden along the right wing boards. Iggulden came into the zone and dropped the puck to Callahan who was trailing the play. Iggulden drove to the net setting a screen in front of Providence starting net-minder, Tuukka Rask. Callahan used the screen and blasted a slap-shot through Providence starting goalie Tuukka Rask for the 1-0 lead on his third goal of the season. The Bruins would answer with two quick tallies of their own within the final five minutes of the opening frame. Jeremy Reich would score his 10th goal of the season at the 15:44 mark to tie the score at one. Providence would take the 2-1 lead about three minutes later when Jordan Knackstedt redirected a pass from Zach Hamill that went past Sound Tigers starting goalie, Peter Mannino's right pad for his fourth tally this season.

Sobotka would score the only goal during the second period, his 11th of the season. Martin St. Pierre dug the puck out of a scrum in the left corner between Mikko Lehtonen and Callahan. St. Pierre took the puck and centered it to Sobotka who one-timed the puck through the legs of Mannino, giving the Bruins a 3-1 lead.

Providence would seal the game with an empty-net goal by rookie winger, Brad Marchand. St. Pierre earned his second assist on Marchand's eighth goal of the year, winning the game 4-1 for the Bruins.

Mannino finished the game with 32 saves while Rask earned the win turning aside 26 of the 27 shots he faced. The Sound Tigers 0-for-3 on the power-play but were perfect on the penalty-kill going 4-for-4.
