
P-Bruins Defeat Sound Tigers 4-1

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 4-1 Friday evening at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got their goals from Jeremy Reich, Jordan Knackstedt, Vladimir Sobotka and Brad Marchand. The first place P-Bruins are back at home at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Sunday, January 11 versus the Lowell Devils at 4:05 p.m. for Vladimir Sobotka Poster Night.
Bridgeport took a 1-0 lead at the 7:52 mark of the opening period. Joe Callahan tallied his third goal of the season with Mike Iggulden and Vladimir Nikiforov. Providence tied the game at one at the 15:44 mark. Jeff Penner fed the puck to Knackstedt who carried it into the zone. He dropped the puck off for Reich and Reich netted his tenth goal of the season. The P-Bruins took their first lead of the game at the 18:36 mark. Matt Marquardt held the puck in the neutral zone and passed it to Knackstedt. He sent it to Zach Hamill who tossed it in front of the net and Knackstedt tipped the puck into the net for his fourth goal of the season. Providence went into the first intermission leading 2-1.
The P-Bruins scored the lone goal of the second period at the 13:38 mark. Mikko Lehtonen had the puck tied up along the boards and worked it up to Martin St. Pierre. He found Sobotka in the slot and Sobotka tallied his eleventh goal of the season. Providence led 3-1 after two periods.
In the third period the P-Bruins added an empty net goal at the 19:28 mark. St. Pierre stole the puck and fed it to Marchand, who backhanded it into the empty net for his eighth goal of the season. Providence went on to the 4-1 victory.
Tuukka Rask stopped 26 of 27 shots he faced for the P-Bruins, while Peter Mannino made 32 saves for the Sound Tigers. Â The P-Bruins were 0-for-4 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.
