Abbotsford Heat News Release

After going without an overtime win through the first 114 games in franchise history, the Flames earned their second extra session victory in their last three outings on Friday night vs. Toronto. The final was set at 3-2 following a power-play goal by Jamie Lundmark just 32 seconds into the overtime session. Kyle Greentree and David Van der Gulik supplied the regulation goals as Quad City improved to 4-1-0-0 at home since the holiday break.

In the first period, the Marlies took a 2-0 lead on specialty teams goals by Bates Battaglia and Anton Stralman. Battaglia scored a shorthanded goal following a set of nifty passes with teammate Jiri Tlusty. With 4:42 left in the period, the Marlies converted on a power play of their own. Anton Stralman scored on a goal-mouth scramble by following a point shot by Darryl Boyce. Toronto held a 2-0 edge at the end of the first period.

Kyle Greentree netted the only goal of the middle frame just 3:38 into the period. Greentree scored his 17th goal when he swatted home a rebound following a Jamie Lundmark shot. Quad City had a chance to tie the game later in the middle period when a pair of Toronto penalties earned the Flames 1:43 of 5-on-3 power-play time. Quad City was unable to convert and entered the final period trailing by a single goal.

The Flames tied the game at 1:41 of the third period when Toronto netminder Adam Munro mishandled a David Van der Gulik shot from the right-wing half wall. Munro fanned on an attempt to swat the puck into the corner and it trickled home for Van der Gulik's tenth goal of the season. The tally was the only goal of the third period and forced the overtime session. Late in the third period, Boyd Devereaux was sent off for delay of game after flipping the puck over the boards. The late minor carried over to the overtime session. Just 32 seconds into the extra frame, Jamie Lundmark scored his 11th goal of the year. With the Flames on the man advantage, Lundmark powered home a shot from the high slot to earn the win. Carsen Germyn and Anders Eriksson earned assists on the game-winning goal.
