Iowa Chops News Release

Led by six straight goals and a hat-trick from Michael Grabner, the Iowa Chops (20-14-2-2, 44 pts.) fell at home on Friday night to the Manitoba Moose (24-12-0-2, 50 pts.), 6-1. The 1st period went scoreless, but not without chances from both offenses. The Moose were buzzing to begin the period, with several chances from the slot, but Chops goaltender David LeNeveu made several big saves to keeo the game scoreless. The second half of the period was all Chops, but the AHL's leading goaltender Cory Schneider shut the door on the Chops, as Iowa unloaded a season-high 15 shots in the scoreless 1st period. The Chops scored the first goal of the game in the 2nd period, as on the tail end of a four minute power play, Troy Bodie poked home his 6th of the season off a loose puck in front with assists from defensemen John de Gray and Eric Regan. Manitoba would have a great chance midway through the period on a full two minute 5 on 3 power play, but the Chops penalty kill led by LeNeveu slammed the door the entire penalty kill. However, a turnover at center ice led to a late 2 on 1 for Manitoba and Michel Ouellet converted to Michael Grabner, who put a shot over the blocker side of LeNeveu to tie the game at 1-1 after two periods. Ultimately, the momentum from the Moose goal late in the 2nd period translated into an all out Moose attack in the 3rd period, as Manitoba lit the lamp for five goals in the final frame. David LeNeveu got twisted on the second Manitoba goal early in the 3rd period and had to leave the game with an apparent lower body injury. JP Levasseur came in, but gave up for more Moose goals as the Chops ultimately fell 6-1. Things got interesting in the last five minutes with three separate fighting altercations as the Chops and Moose set a tone for the second game of the series on Saturday. The Iowa Chops return to action at home on Saturday, January 10th again against the Manitoba Moose at 7:05pm. Saturday is the first of five Wendy's Family Night's and the Isiserettes will also be performing. For more information, call the Chops office at 564-8700 or visit www.iowachops.com
