Springfield Falcons News Release

January 9, 2009 - Despite outshooting the Hartford Wolf Pack 40-30, the Springfield Falcons earned just one point in the standings with a 1-0 overtime loss in front of 4,146 at the MassMutual Center on Friday night. In a season series that has featured close games with playoff type atmosphere, the Falcons and Wolf Pack played another tough battle as they went to overtime for the fourth time in five regular season match-ups. The Falcons now head to Portland for back-to-back games against the Pirates on Saturday and Sunday.

Each team had opportunities on the power play to break the deadlock, but both Springfield goaltender Jeff Deslauriers and Hartford netminder Matt Zaba made save after save keeping the game scoreless. In the end, it was Zaba earning the game's first star with 40 saves, while Deslauriers was the second star with 29 saves.

The Falcons started the third period on a five-on-three power play, but couldn't convert as Zaba held the fort for Hartford. Springfield's Deslauriers was just as strong at the other end as he robbed Pierre Parenteau with a right pad save late in the third period.

Midway through the third period, the Falcons appeared to have scored when Taylor Chorney's slap shot hit the crossbar and was originally signaled a goal by the referee. After the two linesmen came over for a brief conference, it was ruled no goal.

In the overtime, Hartford's Artem Anisimov won the game at 3:05 of the extra session, his second game-winning overtime goal against the Falcons this year.
